Description of My Massage Work
My massage consists mostly of deep tissue with other modalities or styles mixed in when appropriate. I love to work with the core of the body, the breath, the neck and postural issues. I also really enjoy the detailed massage involved in injury treatment. I am drawn to slow, intentional movements in my work. This allows my clients (both human and animal) time to adjust and absorb changes more readily. Other modalities/styles of massage that I use in my bodywork are Swedish, neuromuscular therapy, muscle energy technique, craniosacral, hydrotherapy, and slow fascial stretching. I have a unique background in animal care and medicine that has taught me so much about anatomy, physiology and pathology. As a student of both Anusara yoga and Pilates I have enhanced my ability to observe postural variations and expanded my ability to suggest creative solutions for my human clients. During massage school the teachers and my fellow classmates would often comment on my ability to integrate my previous experience into my massage.
My Background
I graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Management in 1998. I attended massage school at the Brian Utting School of Massage, finishing in April of 2004. I continued my massage training in animal massage at the Northwest School of Animal Massage, completing both the large and small animal massage programs by early 2005. I have been teaching both large and small animal massage through NWSAM since completing my training. I have worked as a zoo educator and keeper/caretaker as well as a veterinary technician for an emergency clinic and a day practice clinic. The day practice clinic also served animal patients from a local zoo, a turtle hatchery, and a stranded marine mammal facility that I was fortunate enough to get to work with regularly.
I hope that you and your animal friends will find me to be a supportive, healing and creative resource for the journey toward long lasting health. Namasté.
